INDIA HAS suffered one of their worst defeats during the English tour, as India could not even win a single match, be it a Test match, ODI match or a T20. They were dismal in their performance and the English team on the other hand were very hungry for a win. Many former players and cricket officials have been giving excuse such as injuries to their main players, which led to India’s downfall.

But, it does not give them any license to lose all the matches, when they have players like Kohli, Suresh Raina, who are said to be the future of Indian cricket.  Even players like Rahul Dravid, Ishant Sharma, MS Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar were part of the Test team that lost the series very badly.

 The Indian team need to look back at what actually went wrong during the tour. The team could not put up a good score on the board during the Test series, whereas the bowlers put up a brave fight against the English batsmen. It was just the opposite during the ODI series, where the batsmen batted well, but the bowlers let them down. A nation would be able to produce results in their favour only if all the 11 players gel together and play as a unit rather than playing in bits and pieces.  

Some unfortunate injuries that the Indian players suffered opened up the eyes of many selectors, which made them realise that they need to have a strong pool of players ready to fill in as a replacement for these injured players. When the need arose for replacements, they did not have them ready. Hence, Rahul Dravid had to open the innings when regular Indian openers were not available for the match.

The Indian team have to erase this loss from their memory and plan ahead for the upcoming series. Come October; it would be a perfect chance for the Indian team to take revenge against the English team, who thrashed India recently. They would be travelling to India for an ODI series only. The Indian team, by October should be in full strength as major players such as Harbhajan Singh, Sehwag, Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh could be ready for the series. The Indian team needs to prove themselves in upcoming tours such as India tour of Australia, which would be their next tour outside India.

 The Indian team have never lost in such a manner as they did against England recently, so they must be eager to prove to the rest of the world that they are still a formidable team in International cricket. For that to happen, they have to play consistent cricket for some time now, as the scars of the English tour would take some time to heal.
