Online petition started asking Smriti Irani to indefinitely ban TV show 'Pehredaar Piya Ki'
What is the hullabaloo on social networking sites these days about the Hindi show "Pehredaar Piya Ki"? This Hindi soap has turned many eyebrows right from social networking sites to personal circles.

No, it does not have anything classy or unique in the positive sense but has rather been depicting regressive ideologies. The story has a depleting plotline which has not gone down well with the audience.

A 10-year-old boy is married off to an 18-year-old woman because he is looking for protection from sworn enemies. The serial has been attracting a lot of controversies right from the start but despite much furore from the public, the storyline still remains t_ he same. An online petition on has been started asking Smriti Zubin Irani, the Union cabinet minister of Textiles and Information and Broadcasting to place an indefinite ban on the infamous show.

The petitioner has till present collected over 36,282 signatures in support. The petition says: "A 10-year-old impressionable little kid ("piyaa") caressing and stalking a lady who's more than double his age and filling sindoor in her "maang" is being telecasted at prime time, family time. Imagine the kind of influence it will steadily and perpetually infuse in the viewers' mindset. We want a ban on the serial. We do not want our kids to be influenced by such TV serials."

The show's promos had earlier portrayed a bleak image of the society depicting a very backward setting promoting the concept of child marriage. The initial episodes were quite a blatant exhibition of a nonsensical story. Actor Karan Wahi slammed the makers of the serial by quoting "selling stupidity in the name of content which gives TRP."

Tejaswi Prakash, who plays the role of Diya (the Pehredaar) had, however, defended and twisted words by saying, "The relationship cannot be like child marriage as we both (characters) do not know the definition of love, nor there is nothing like romance on the show. We are not married in a romantic way, we are just like friends." (As reported to news agency IANS.)

Now, that's an excuse for such crap which is being served to the masses everyday in the name of family entertainment. The whole serial saga has become a lingering thread of unrealistic sketch of life without the slightest quotient of intelligent content or rationale.

The first episodes of the show introduced the main characters Ratan (Afaan Khan) 10 and Diya 18. Both of the protagonists' love interest was the main plot, depicting Ratan to be smitten by Diya. The show had crossed all the boundaries of basic human instincts by distorting the very innocence of the child character. Ratan's marriage proposal came as a rude shock.

This was though not taken seriously by Diya but fate had sketched a different plan for them. The script goes haywire with Ratan's father asking for Diya's hand. Now that was surely is a breathtaking climax. But there is more in the store for the hapless viewers, the honeymoon scenes and the Suhagraat sequence.

Well, now it's for the viewers to feed their minds with such disturbing content or pull off the show with immediate effect.
