Oops! Meghalaya BJP pays tributes to an alive Vinod Khanna after hoax news of the actor's death spreads like wildfire on social media
On Saturday evening, BJP's state general secretary David Kharsati called a meeting where he asked all party members to observe a two-minute silence as a mark of respect to the "departed soul" of veteran Bollywood actor Vinod Khanna.

The Meghalaya BJP found itself in an awkward situation after it was criticised on social media for paying tributes to a man who was very much alive. The image of party members paying tributes to Vinod Khanna went viral on social media. The party had to later issue a clarification from its state headquarter.

Recently, social media has been abuzz with rumours about actor Vinod Khanna's death. Khanna is a former BJP Lok Sabha MP from Gurdaspur in Punjab and was recently admitted to the hospital following an illness.

News agency ANI tweeted, "Faux pass by Meghalaya BJP; they observed silence after rumours of Vinod Khanna's death surfaced."

While issuing a clarification later, Kharsati reportedly said, "We wrongly observed two-minute silence and we are extremely sorry for it. We wish Vinod Khanna a long and healthy life."

He further clarified, "Two of our party workers saw a TV news and informed us about the demise and we believed them without verifying the news. We have already issued a statement apologising for the grave mistake that was done from our side. Please cooperate."
