THE OFFICE of Personnel management declared that the federal government in the DC area will stay closed on Monday. News agencies reported that the off will cost approximately $100m per day to taxpayers.

Despite Monday's operating status, emergency personnel will still report as usual. The decision also means a day off for most of the region's private sector, which uses the federal government's operating status as a guide. Virtually all academic institutions in the region will also shutter on Monday.
