A MOB of about 500 people burnt down a police station at Gochapada in Kandhamal district of Orissa during early hours on Tuesday (September 16). One jawan was killed and two police vehicles were also burnt. The attack on police station was in protest against the killing of four persons in police firing on Saturday (September 13). Two were found dead on the spot on Saturday, another one was recovered on Sunday and a fourth on Monday, said the police sources. Thus, the total number of death in police firing touched four.
In another incident, police also recovered the dead body of a man who had been killed in G.Udayagiri area of Kandhamal. The victim, who had taken shelter in relief camp at G Udayagiri town, had gone to his village. His body was packed in a gunny bag that was found floating in a reservoir on Sunday evening. Over 22,000 people, mostly Christians have been living in as many 14 relief camps that the administration opened in Kandhamal in wake up communal violence, following the killing of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader, Swami Laxminanada Saraswati on August 21.
