THE OSCAR countdown has begun and as actors and the world of American cinema wait for the evening to start, Oscar madness is gripping people who love cinema. Even though some reputed publications like the Miami Herald feel that the Oscar needs to be saved in terms of viewership, which according to them is decreasing each year, there are Oscar hungry people who want to know minute by minute happenings not only on the red carpet but also before and after that.

If you own an iPhone or an iPad and have a passion for films and the Oscars, the free Oscar App will enable you to keep track of the latest at the hallowed Kodak Theatre, where the Oscar ceremony will take place on Februaury 26.

The first app, according to ndtv.com, is the Awards Hero: Oscar’s Edition. Using the App one can create one's very own Oscar pool and compete with similar-minded people about guessing who would be taking the golden man for which category. With the nomination list, this application will also let the users have access to trailers of Oscar nominated movies so that they can make an informed decision. The most interesting part, however, is the historical details of Academy Awards right from the time it took birth in 1927.

The app 'Hollywood reporter: The race to the Oscars' is an application that gives the latest details about the Oscars to the user - and not just movie reviews and bios but also who wore what and who committed the ultimate faux pas by opting for something very outrageous or boring. The little snippets, which everyone enjoys so much about the celebrities, will be the main focus of this application.

In 2009, the movie review site came up with its own application that dished out special something to the audience before and on Oscar night. The app dedicates a tab to Awards for movies and TV shows, aptly named 'Road to the Oscars', it featured featuring a complete list of nominees for this year's Oscars; not to mention winners of other movie and TV award shows.
