Oscar nominations 2012: Unexpected or expected?
People going by the Golden Globes Award ceremony would be disappointed as there were many names missing who won Golden Globes in the Oscars Nominations. However, there are some new names and films for the Oscars nomination 2012.
YESTERDAY NIGHT when the other half of the world was sleeping in their beds, Hollywood was wide awake awaiting the fate of their films. The first process of getting to know the Oscar nominations for the year is as exciting as actually waiting for the announcement for the winner as being nominated is also a costly affair that has to follow with appropriate dresses and shoes for the red carpet on the D Day. The Artists and Hugo led the nominations after being nominated for 10 and 11 nominations respectively, including the best movie nomination. Apart from these two films, the list of nine movies for the Best Picture comprises of the Help, War Horse, Moneyball, Descendents, Midnight in Paris, Tree of Life and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.
George Clooney and
Brad Pitt are about to lock horns again on the red carpet and this time it would be for the most coveted Golden statuette. Last time, the Golden Globes decided that George Clooney was more deserving for the Best Actor award. Will the Oscar jury agree with the choice again is the real question? The other actors nominated for the Best Actor category are Demian Bichir, Jean Dujardin, and Gary Oldman as reported in hindustantimes.com.
While in the Golden Globes both Michelle Williams and
Meryl Streep won the best actress award in different categories, this time they are fighting for the same title. We know Meryl to be a strong contestant, especially this time when she is nominated for her Margaret Thatcher role in the Iron lady but Michelle Williams is also imitating one of the most loved women of Hollywood; Marilyn Munroe and so it is a real close call. However, it might so happen that
Glenn Close, Viola Davies or Rooney Mara might go home with the statue (however improbable that might sound).
Michel Hazanavicius, Alexander Payne, Terrence Malick, Martin Scorsese and
Woody Allen are nominated for the Best Director category for entertaining the audience throughout the year. The Artist and the Midnight in Paris won a nomination in the original script category with Bridesmaids, Margin Call and A Separation. The Ides of March that raised many’s expectation won the best Adapted Screenplay category nominations with Hugo, the descendants, Moneyball and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
