Osteoporosis is treatable and preventable
Osteoporosis is called as The Silent Thief as it can progress in a body for many years without showing symptoms - resulting in weakening of bones and then at the end a fracture.

IT IS not necessary that you will have osteoporosis as you grow old. But in women the chances of having osteoporosis is very high  - as high as equal to the combined risk of developing uterine, breast, and ovarian cancer. The sad reality is that for every five persons who is diagnosed with a hip fracture one person will not survive more than 1 year.

As a mark of warning, patients and people should know that the typical x-ray can't diagnose the disease of osteoporosis till about 30 per cent of bone is lost, which can be an alarming situation. A Bone Mineral Density test is the most effective way to find out presence of osteoporosis so that one can avoid a situation where one ends up with a fracture.

Considering that out of 10 women four above the age of 50 experience a spine, hip, or wrist fracture in their lifetime, they must ensure that they consume their daily intake of calcium. Eating well and excercise in one's middle age, goes a long way in preventing osteoporosis as we grow older.
