The arcade game, Pac-Man debuted in Japan on May 22, 1980. It was developed by Namco and upon it's release in the US became a cult like game to several. Pac-Man has the highest brand awareness (94%)of any video game character among American consumers.
Google said it had commissioned the doodle, its first ever interactive illustration, to mark the 30th anniversary of Pac-Man's release. Google also said the doodle will stay active for 48 hours. Video arcade game, Pac-Man can play by just click the "Insert Coin" button twice, right next to the "Google Search" button, and Pac-Man will join in on the fun. The second player can control Pac-Man with the "WASD" keys. Pac-Man game is complete with sound and controllable through the arrow keys.
A member of the Google Doodle team, Ryan Germick, said, "We thought it would be awesome to create not only something that references Pac-Man on the home page, but also something playable." Google has even launched a 'Doodle 4 Google' competition, inviting US youngsters to "exercise their creative imaginations" on the theme "If I Could Do Anything, I would …". The winning Google Doodle will be displayed on the search giant's homepage on 27th May.
