Packaged juices can lead to cancer, reveals a harrowing study
Packaged juices that you happily pick up from the supermarkets, can lead to cancer, a study has revealed and scientists are advising to eat fresh fruits rather than sipping these sweet liquids.

NEXT TIME you decide to take a glass of juice from the pack stored in your fridge, think twice – a study by Australian scientists says it can even cause cancer rather than doing any good to your health.

A good and a quick breakfast normally consists of a glass of juice and some toasts and it is considered perfectly healthy. But according to a study by Australian scientists, processed juice can actually give more trouble than good health. There is nothing like a freshly squashed orange or a mango shake but drinks available in packed container are actually quite harmful. The study says that they can increase the risk of certain kinds of cancer.

According to an article published in timesofindia.com, by the time the juices have been packed the important ingredients of the fruits that protect the body from tumours are lost. After examining the diet of 2,200 adults, the scientists kept watch as to who developed the disease. All the participants had to fill a questionnaire detailing their daily eating habits.  After keeping a watch on the participants for two years, the scientists arrived at the results, according to the study published in journal of the American Dietetic Association.

They found that people who ate lot of vegetables such as sprouts, cauliflower or broccoli on a daily basis were at comparatively lesser risk of the diseases than people who consumed juice at a regular interval. The high sugar content in these packed juices actually triggers off the rise of many tumours. They also saw that many things from fruits that actually protect people from bowel cancer were lost during processing of juice.

Thus the scientists advise that until and unless it is freshly squeezed juice, people should refrain from taking packaged juices as it harms rather than help.
