Padma Awards 2016: Who said what
Nine film celebrities will be felicitated with the prestigious Padma awards, one of the highest civilian honours in India. Megastar Rajinikanth will be honored with Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian honor, while the veteran actor Anupan Kher will get Padma Bhushan. The late actor Saeed Jaffrey has been posthumously bestowed the Padma Shri, according to the announcement made on Monday.

Singer Udit Narayan will be awarded with the Padma Bhushan while actors Ajay Devgn, Priyanka Chopra and filmmakers Madhab Panda, S.S. Rajamouli and Madhur Bhandarkar will recieve the Padma Shri honour.

Here's what these celebrities have to say on being chosen for the honor:

Rajnikanth: Feeling deeply honored for being awarded the Padma Vibhushan. My heartfelt thanks to my dear fans, well wishers and friends for all the wishes.

Anupam Kher (Padma Bhushan): Happy, Humbled and Honoured to share that I have been awarded the PADMA BHUSHAN by the Govt. of India. Greatest news of my life:) #JaiHind. Today, an exiled Kashmiri Pandit and the son of a forest department clerk is getting the Padma Bhushan because of his hardwork. Thank you, India.

Priyanka Chopra (Padma Shri): I am happy... excited that this honour came my way. It has been a good year for me. The start has been great. I am grateful to people who have acknowledged my work. Being the daughter of an army officer, this honour makes it more special. I think with the award comes encouragement to do better and good work. There is a responsibility to perform better. I am happy (that) I am acknowledged for the work that I have done. I think I am living my dream. My congratulations to the recipients of the Padma Awards this year. I am privileged to be a part of such an illustrious list of achievers.

Ajay Devgn (Padma Shri): I feel deeply humbled yet elated to receive such honor from my own country. This announcement today makes it special for me when I'm filming abroad... I'd like to acknowledge that Padma Samman puts an extra responsibility on me and I promise to serve my country for as long as I can.

SS Rajamouli (Padma Shri): I dont know what to say... It is quite a mixed feeling. Very frankly I don't feel I deserve the honour. This is not humility. I was wondering how this happened when I came to know that I was recommended by the Karnataka government. I was born in Karnataka, studied in Andhra Pradesh, worked in Tamil Nadu and settled in Telangana. Happy to be a son of all the states.

Udit Narayan (Padma Bhushan):If you have honesty in you and passion to work, then God does look up to you. This has been proved. My mother nurtured the talent I had within me. There cannot be a happier moment for me. I have sung in more than 35 languages for over 35 years. I feel extremely proud and honored. I remember the moment when I sang with Mohammad Rafi, and the journey since then has been absolutely great. I would like to thank my fans and the government who has bestowed upon me such huge honor. I want to thank all the singers, composers, directors, the whole film fraternity, fans and the government for conferring this honor on me.

Madhur Bhandarkar (Padma Shri): I was thrilled to hear the news. There can be no bigger achievement than the fact that the Indian Government is giving recognition for your work. It is just the start. I feel more responsible to bring out many other social issues to the world through my films. I am thankful to all my actors, producers, technicians, audience and everyone who stood beside me in this journey.

Nila Madhab Panda (Padma Shri): I am very happy that I will get the Padma Shri. It's a great achievement to me. I am sure that it will inspire me to work in the direction of making more films on several issues of the country.

Gratitude, humbled and Honored to be announced for "Padmashri". Thanking the people of Odisha, he said the award would increase responsibility. "I will certainly try to meet the expectation of people," he added.

Other Padma Vibhushan awardees are classical dancer Yamini Krishnamurthi and classical vocalist Girija Devi in Arts category, while theatre director Heisnam Kanhailal from Manipur and sculpture artist Ram V. Sutar are among the Padma Bhushan awardees.

Moreover, folk musicians Bhikhudan Gadhvi, classical dancer Prathibha Prahlad, Mamta Chandrakar and Malini Awasthi, textile designer Sribhas Chandra Supakar, classical vocalist Soma Ghosh, classical musician Pandit Tulsidas Borkar, folk artist M. Venkatesh Kumar, folk dancer Gulabi Sapera and theatre artiste Naresh Chander Lal have been named for the Padma Shri honor.
