Padma awards complete recommendations list
While out of total 1132 recommendations reached to Union Home Ministry for Padma awards 2010 by 20.11.2009, stipulated last date.
WHILE OUT of total 1132 recommendations sent to Union Home Ministry for Padma awards 2010 by 20.11.2009, stipulated last date, 107 persons were finally endorsed ‘unanimously’ by nine-members Awards Committee in its two-days’ meeting in December 2009, two additional meetings of Awards Committee summoned in January 2010 selected as many as 25 more awardees out of just 31 recommendations reached after the last date.

Interestingly 19 out of these 31 were from members of Awards Committee itself where five out of nine members of Awards Committee represent official public-authorities as if there was a quota of two Awards per member of awards Committee! Union Home Ministry has however hidden member/s of Awards Committee having got his/her recommendation cleared for 19 such awardees. It is also to be noted that two meetings of January 2010 were absolutely unnecessary because additional meetings of Awards Committee are summoned only to fill up gap created by rejection of endorsed names later by tax and/or intelligence authorities, and there were no such rejection out of 107 names endorsed by Awards Committee.

No authority including even President, Vice President, Prime Minister, Union Home Minister or even members of Awards Committee should have freedom to send any recommendation after the last date. Even KR Narainan Committee formed on directions of Apex Court had not exempted any authority from last date to send recommendation which was later modified to 20th November.

No individual should be allowed to send more than one recommendation. List shows that there are politicians who have sent many recommendations. Recommending persons should realise importance of these national honours, and not everyone approaching them should get recommended out of political courtesy and compulsion.
