Butt was awarded a 10 year ban out of which five years have been suspended whereas, Asif was banned for seven years out of which two were suspended and Amir has been banned for five years.
PAKISTANI CRICKETERS got more than what they had bargained for. A problematic situation for the cricketing nation was created when International Cricket Council (ICC) handed down the ban to three Pakistani cricketers namely Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir.

Butt was awarded a 10-year ban out of which five years have been suspended whereas, Asif was banned for seven years out of which two were suspended and Amir was banned for five years.

As per a statement by the ICC released by Michael Beloff QC, the tribunal dismissed a charge under Article 2.1.1 of the ICC's anti-corruption code that Butt had knowingly batted out a maiden over.

However, the hearing tribunal found the former Pakistani captain guilty under Article 2.4.2 of the code which said that he had failed to disclose vital information to the ICC’s Anti Corruption and Security Unit in which he was approached by the match fixer Mazhar Majeed was proved. Majeed had allegedly asked the captain to bat out a maiden over.

Beloff’s statement also said that the Tribunal found that the charges under Article 2.1.1 of the Code that (respectively) Asif agreed to bowl and did bowl a deliberate no ball in the Lord's Test match played between Pakistan and England from 26 to 29 August 2010, Amir agreed to bowl and did bowl two deliberate no balls in the same Test, and Butt was party to the bowling of those deliberate no balls, were proved.

Giving out the details about the quantum of the punishment, the statement also said that the ICC also imposed the following sanctions “on Mr. Butt a sanction of 10 years ineligibility, five years of which are suspended on condition that he commits no further breach of the code and that he participates under the auspices of the Pakistan Cricket Board in a programme of Anti-Corruption education.

"On Mr Asif a sanction of seven years ineligibility, two years of which are suspended on condition that he commits no further breach of the code and that he participates under the auspices of the Pakistan Cricket Board in a programme of Anti-Corruption education. On Mr Amir sanction of five years of ineligibility.
"No further sanctions are imposed on any player and no orders are made as to costs.
