Pakistan rules out featuring under Indian hegemony in South Asia
A meeting held between Chief of the Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani have stated that under any given circumstances they will not give in to the Indian hegemony in South Asia.
A MEETING convened between Pakistan’s highest political and military representatives, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and Chief Of the Army Staff General (COAS) Ashfaq Pervez Kayani resolved that they will not, under any given circumstances come under the Indian dominance in the South Asia.
The meeting was held in the backdrop of US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s visit to India earlier this week. While Clinton’s visit to India emphasised heavily on the terror and India’s stance against tackling terror, the United States’ representative is also said to have told her Indian counterpart S.M Krishna that the US wants India to play a key role in this part of the world.
During the meeting at the Prime Minister’s residence, General Kayani is also said to have discussed Pakistan’s internal security in the country as well as Islamabad. However, it is not ascertained what was their stance on the ongoing Karachi violence. The COAS also discussed the working of the Pakistani military forces and also apprised the Prime Minister of the developments taking place in the militant hit tribal parts of the country.
The Prime Minister in the meeting stated that the country and the administration will continue to fight terrorism and will not act under pressure inspite of incurring heavy losses in terms of manpower and material.
