Pakistan SC adjourns Hafiz Saeed's case indefinitely

IN A major setback for India, which has been demanding stern action against LeT Chief Hafiz Saeed, the Pakistan Supreme Court on Monday indefinitely adjourned a case against the terrorist mastermind citing lack of evidence. Hafiz Saeed is accused of orchestrating the November 26 2008 Mumbai terror attacks in which 166 people were killed and several injured.

Saeed's lawyer, A K Dogar, said that Saeed is now a free man and is at liberty to do as he likes. An elated Dogar said that his client would continue to serve the people and perform his duties at the second most important mosque in the country. He also said that the Jamaat-ul-Dawa was a charitable organisation which ran 160 schools, 52 madrasas and four universities in Pakistan. This is the second major setback for the Indian side, which has been demanding that the Pakistani establishment nail Hafiz Saeed. Earlier, Lahore High court had rejected the case against the LeT Chief dashing all hopes of any possible action against him.

Despite the submission of four dossiers by India, pointing to Hafiz Saeed's involvement in the Mumbai terror attacks, the Supreme Court order clearly points to the fact that evidence given by India does not carry much weight for Pakistan. The trials of Mumbai masterminds Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi and Zarar Shah have also been postponed and this is being seen by the Pakistani establishment as a delaying tactic.
