UNION HOME MINISTER P Chidambaram has said that Pakistan was still training and pushing militants in Jammu and Kashmir. On Wednesday (October 14) morning, the Union Home Minister was interacting with journalists at the All India Editors Conference on Social and Infrastructure issues.
Chidambaram said that there has been a remarkable improvement in the security situation in the terror affected state. Making a fresh bid to reach out to separatists in Jammu and Kashmir, the Union Minister favoured dialogue with every political party and political opinion in the state to find a political solution to the Kashmir problem that may be unique.
While answering the questions on steps taken by the Centre to resolve the Kashmir issue, Chidambaram announced that the Central government will hold dialogue with all shades of political opinion to formulate contours of a solution in Jammu and Kashmir but made it clear that the talks would be held away from the media glare.
Chidambaram said, “We will hold dialogue with every shade of political opinion in Jammu and Kashmir to find a solution in a civilised way. The dialogue will not be in full media glare. It will be a quiet dialogue. It will be through quiet diplomacy.”
The Home Minister mentioned that major political parties like National Conference (NC), PDP and Congress have a point of view and the effort would be to hold talks with all shades of political opinion, including some political groups advocating separatism, to arrive at the contours of a political solution which may be unique.
Further Chidambaram said, such a solution, should be 'honourable and acceptable' to the vast majority of the people in Jammu and Kashmir.
