It was the world’s number one team tumbling like a pack of cards against the South-Asian team that had only two players who have played more than 50 test matches. But if we take this opportunity to look at our team who boast of likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid who have played hundreds of test matches, what do we get to see – only shame and misery. Our heroes should learn from the young Pakistanis who are fired with all the energy to show that they can achieve but our selectors are banking on the legends who are now too old to get that stamina.
Pakistan won the first test by 10 wickets and the second by 72 runs when it bowled out England for 72 while chasing 145 runs. Now English are in danger of losing ICC’s annual jackpot of $175,000, awarded to the top test team in the rankings – all thanks to the whitewash.
Pakistan, one of the most unpredictable teams in the cricket scripted history by becoming the first team in 105 years that won a Test match after being dismissed for less than 100 runs in its first innings. In 1907, England has achieved such a feat by defeating South Africa by 53 runs at Headingley in 1907 after being bowled out for 76.
Look at our national team and people have even stopped to watch their dismal performance but our selectors wouldn’t learn from this Pakistan victory – a feat achieved by youngsters. We should also include more young blood in our team instead of banking on old blood.
