Residents of Palam Vihar locality in Gurgaon are shocked over the manner in which some criminals held a family of eight hostage for about two hours. They however expressed relief over the timely rescue of the family by the police.
RESIDENTS OF posh Palam Vihar locality in Gurgaon are in a state of shock over the attempted robbery by armed criminals in their locality on Friday night (September, 25). They, however expressed relief and appreciated the timely action of police, which saved the family of eight living in the C-block from a dangerous ordeal.
On Friday night, a gang of four to five criminals had barged into the C-block house of Anup Chaturvedi in the colony and took eight members of the family hostage. However, one of the family members showed considerable presence of mind and called the police, which took no time in reaching the house. It was revealed that the family members were held hostage for at least two hours as the robbers demanded all valuables and cash.
Police said that a group of criminals pounced on one of the family members, when he returned from work in his car around 9.30 pm. After entering the house, the criminals rounded the family members and asked for valuables. The double storied house situated near the Palam Vihar Vyapar Kendra is easily accessible from the main road and that helped the police to locate it, after one family members called them. When the police reached the house and asked the criminals to surrender, they opened fire indiscriminately, forcing the police to retaliate, which resulted in the killing of two gangsters. A local resident, Dev Prasad, who lives nearby said that he heard loud bangs in the nights and thought people were exploding crackers. But, it was only in the morning, he said that he came to know about the shootout and killing of the criminals. “I think police have done a very good job and they must be appreciated for timely action. Had the police not reached in time, the criminals could have done much harm to the family”, he said, adding that the crime in Gurgaon is reaching epidemic proportions. Although police claims that the criminals were four in number, but sources said that the number of criminals was around six or seven. While two of them were killed by the police, the rest of them managed to escape in a car, which was later found abandoned in other locality in the area, they added.Standing near the house, where the encounter took place, Harish, a resident of Gurgaon, said that he was surprised by the quick reaction of the police. “The police here always reaches late but I am happy that this incident proved to be an exception”, he quipped, adding that it was divine intervention that saved the family from criminals.Senior police officials also visited the site of crime in the morning today and questioned the family members about the sequence of events. A large number of local residents could be seen gathered around the house to know about what actually happened.
