PARCHHAIYAAN: A musical exploration on legendary poet Sahir Ludhiyanvi
A premier show of PARCHHAIYAAN, a musical exploration on legendary poet Sahir Ludhiyanvi took place at Nehru center, Worli on the evening of 5 April 2013.

Parchhaiyaan is a docudrama on the canvas of two characters "Sahir” and “She” rendering us through the love saga of Sahir and further his emotional crisis overwhelmed by his artistic blend followed by his iconic stature in the Film and Literary arena.

But beyond this, the script narrates the India’s historical events in mid 20th century of the impact of 2nd World War; independence followed by Partition … its effect on the layman… and the socio-political thoughts reflecting the nation’s psyche. The poetry, songs, quotes and the biography of Sahir Ludhiyanvi are the backbone of the play representing Sahir as Character and the perspective of Indian masses through his poetry. His loves, and love poems, were tinged with sorrow, with the realization that there are stark realities more important than romantic love.

Unable to sing hymns to Khuda (God), Husn (beauty) and Jaam (wine), his pen would rather pour out his anguish and bitterness over social inequities, political cynicism, the artificial barriers that divide mankind, the senselessness of war, the domination of materialism over love.

The form of the play is no doubt very unique and an experiment in itself to compose on the stage. Unlike various productions on other number of poet’s life and their works; this production would prove to be a surprise on the content and the treatment criterion. The depiction of two characters i.e. “Sahir” and “She” followed by the emotional expression via dance in contemporary form on recorded fusion music will be the unique feature of the production. The musical drama covered visuals and intelligent lighting will be the prime elements to make it technically crisp in order to leave a mark on the audience’s mind.

Internationally acclaimed veteran actor, Tom Alter played the lead role as Sahir. The whole idea, concept and production were done under the stewardship of Nandini Trivedi, who is a senior journalist, feature writer and music critic in the esteemed newspaper, Mumbai Samachar since last 17 years. She has interviewed many celebrities in the field of music, theatre, film and literature, written three research-based books on music and also organized well-acclaimed musical concertsin Mumbai. She has worked as an anchor in few documentaries and has also been interviewed on television and radio in India and abroad like Sydney Broadcasting Service(SBS) and the BBC. She has also been accoladed by Tejswini Award for her contribution in journalism and for promoting art and culture.

Passionate about Indian classical Music & theatre, She wishes to work to preserve and promote Indian art and culture through such unique shows.
