Illegal possessions in Gurgaon are openly challenging the administration. They have illegally taken over a stretch of land from HUDA City Centre to Sushant Lok metro station. In order to make parking lots, about three kilometer long stretch from HUDA City Centre metro station to Shushant Lok has been taken over. With the parking establishment, air pollution has posed as a new health threat. However the authorities are showing no interest towards the irregularities right under their nose, despite the residents complaining against parking mafia.
Giving details about the encroached area, SP Dawar, General
Secretary, Sushant Lok 1 RWA told timesofindia "The footpath
along the entry points from the MG Road to Sushant Lok 1, has been
blocked by fixing barred wires, boulders and stones along the road to
force private vehicles to use unauthorised parking lots. The
condition is same in Block B where a commercial complex and a
hospital have encroached upon the greenbelt and the service road to
create a paid parking lot."
Another resident Shabnam also had the same issue. She told that
with the encroach of green land for parking lots, air and noise
pollution by parked cars has been an all day affair for them. The
roads meant for illegal parking are studded with potholes that create
the problems for pedestrians especially morning walkers.
Sources in HUDA said that "this is a serious issue".
"All the obstructions should be removed from the green belts
area. Besides, green belt areas need to be restored. We will issue
notices to defaulters, if any complaint reaches us.''
