The Indian parliamentarians are mostly grappling with serious issues and as such their mood remains serious and there is little chance of laughter and jest. It is time that MPs add laughter to their daily life as it will boost their performance.
LAUGHTER IS the best medicine – the adage goes. Parliamentarians, because of their nature of services handling numerous issues including complicated ones, many a time carry long drawn faces with serious looks. During late Smt. Indira Gandhi’s tenure as Prime Minister, there was a parliamentarian known as Piloo Mody who had the knack of bringing smiles to all those present during the sessions through his “sense of humour comments”. He was the brother of the former Chairman and Managing Director of Tata Steel, Russi Mody.
Laloo Prasad Yadav also carried the charisma of bringing smiles to many people. While he was the Railway Minister, many members would be keen to listen to his speech mainly to enjoy the couplets during his presentation of the Railway Budget proceedings while he was the Railway Minister. Even otherwise through his body language and smart witty comments, he would be making other parliamentarians laugh.During election time, voters can do well to elect people like the above, who are not only good social workers but also carry a good sense of humour – such moves will ensure parliamentarians get the needed laugh at times to enable them to perform better.
