THE ENGINE and a bogie of the Kirandul-Vishakhapatnam passenger train derailed in Naxal-affected Dantewada district in Chhatisgarh on Thursday morning. The passenger train got derailed after it left Kirandul railway station and was approaching Bhansi around 06:45 in the morning.
According to sources, no casualties have been reported. Police officials suspect the involvement of naxalites, but have not recovered any such material related to the naxal activities from the spot.
Relief train and additional police force were rushed to the accident site immediately after the derailment. The goods train movement has been affected on the route due to the incident. Repair work is going on the incident spot.
Chhatisgarh is badly affected by naxal activities. In the past six months, Indian Railway has witnessed several rail accidents. Last month an engine of Howrah-bound Rajdhani Express derailed at a station in Hooghly district. Three days back at Badarwas station in Madhya Pradesh, a goods train rammed into Gwalior-Indore Intercity Express, that resulted in the death of ten people, whereas 80 were injured.
