Not even a single garland could be found on their statutes to pay homage to the great lady on this special day. Where is the so called Lodhi community, which takes pride in identifying themselves with Avantibai Lodhi and politicians, the so called guardians of society, who indulge in vote bank politics, polarize votes on caste plank, make towering promises to garner votes.
The embarrassing situation of Avantibai Lodhi’s statue wasn’t an isolated case, a similar kind of humiliation to freedom fighters was observed in other statues as well, including the statues of Ashfaqullah Khan, and Tantiya Tope.
The shocking prevailing condition of the statues in Agra also brings Agra Nagar Nigam under the scanner, which makes tall claim on the maintenance of statues of freedom fighters. I take this opportunity to implore to authorities, including D.M, Agra, Nagar Nigam, Indrajit Arya, Mayor Agra to look into the grave issue. These freedom fighters made altruistic sacrifice to liberate us from the shackles of slavery. Kindly render esteem to legendary architects of incredible India as well, who put in a special effort to build the statue as well.
One of our volunteers, Shiv, a B.Tech student was livid, as to how the government machinery is treating the statues of legends in Agra. “Government should pay attention to these statues, they can’t be humiliated. These are our heritage, we must render esteem to them”, he said with a pain in his voice.
Heartfelt homage was paid to nine idols of freedom fighters, which include Subhash Chandra Bose, Mahatma Gandhi, Maharani Avantibai Lodhi, Tantiya Tope, Ashfaqullah Khan, Lal Bahadur Shastri and Bhimrao Ambedkar.
