Patiala in Punjab to host three-day conference on "Inclusive Education and Technologies"
A three-day national conference on "Inclusive Education and Technologies" is going to be organized at Thapar Institute of Engineering, Patiala from August 16 to 18 keeping in view both rural and urban context with the centrality of collaborative approach.

The organizing partners for the conference are, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Thapar Institute of Engineering, Patiala; Centre for Disability Studies and Action (CDSA), School of Social Work of Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai; and Brotherhood, Delhi.

In this multidisciplinary conference, various researches and evidence based practices; innovations and inclusive education based technologies will be presented and discussed, informs the notification of the conference.

In the section of inclusive education, the research papers on good practices being used by the teachers teaching languages, mathematics, science, social science and co-teaching activities in the inclusive settings will be presented.

In the subtheme related to technologies; the topics such as learning and assessment related to hardware and software technologies; augmented and virtual reality;  artificial intelligence based technologies; soft skills; e-accessibility addresses overcoming or proactive avoiding barriers for people with disabilities in the information society; accessibility, adaptive, assistive, information and communication and web technology; e-learning and education; Augmented and Alternative Communication (AAC)  for people with problems in spoken and written communication; accessible workplace technology; etc., have been included

According to the organizers of the conference;  a special focus during the conference will be on the 'Design for All' or 'Universal Design' to  highlight the proactive application of principles, methods and tools to meet the requirements of a broad diversity of users including those with disabilities in fields like e.g. architecture, traffic, housing, public buildings, work place, information, education.

For this, companies and manufacturers have been invited to bring many innovative products and services on display, and display of availability of various products and services.

Another are of interest would be the usability and ergonomics focus on day to day use of accessible ICT/HCI/AT based systems and services and their efficiency, effectiveness, learnability, memorability, flexibility, for people with disabilities and their environment.

Despite the directives for  equity and inclusion, the children with learning disabilities in the form of dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalcula, disgraphia or other neurologically based conditions are being pushed out of mainstream schools and seeking exclusive education in special schools. The mainstream schools are not accommodating such children through designed interventions to remedy their poor handwriting as well as comprehension and organizational difficulties, I feel.
