Patna Serial Blast: Nitish Kumar needs to introspect seriously
Even staunch supporters of Modi were apprehensive when Modi was declared BJP campaign committee chief, because they were afraid of Nitish's exit from NDA and they considered it as a possible loss for BJP's prospective. Nitish was a leader of a stature no less than Modi in his own turf.

However rapid change was witnessed, JDU finally walked out of NDA and Modi was declared as PM candidate.

Less than four months since then and after the recent serial blast at Modi?s rally in Patna, Nitish perhaps lost all his credentials and even his new found friends like Congress are ready to dump him. He is hiding behind covers, starting from media to political parties, all are chasing him to nail him for security lapses at Gandhi Maidan rally. Also as per various opinion polls he is losing ground in Bihar and post Modi rally, despite advocator of Bihari Ashmita, people in Bihar have started deserting him.

What went wrong? Does Nitish need serious introspection? Let?s discuss.

It?s always said that one?s personal strength is always very strong when he is inside the crowd. If he makes himself isolated, then he may personally think himself stronger, but the fact remains he always became weaker as he missed the surround choreography.

Many believe that had Nitish stayed in NDA, perhaps he would have been successful in checking his rival Modi?s rise. But perhaps he gave too much of his ear to his new set of advisers who are not only immature, but also aloof of the ground situation.

Modi had an all India appeal whereas Nitish was hero of Bihar. Nitish could have exercised his strength being inside NDA. But his advisers thought, Nitish being the identity of Bihar, he alone can win all the forty seats by his charisma. The forgotten fact was both RJD & LJP though were down but not out in Bihar. Their combined vote percentage was more than JDU & BJP?s individual vote percentage.

The adviser?s thought that though they might not dent in to BJP votes due to Sushil Modi?s work & Narendra Modi?s stature, they tried to woe vote bank of RJD & LJP. Thus they projected themselves as strong anti-Modi pastures. Result sizable middle class votes deserted his party.

For desperate minority vote gaining they seem soft on IM. They didn?t want to take custody of Yasin Vattkal. They went slow on Bodh-Gaya blast and even didn?t welcome or honor the martyrs at boarders. The Bihari soldiers martyred at border by Pakistan and because Pakistan is a Muslim country, they were ignored considering to woe Bihari Muslim votes. How immature Nitish?s advisers were. Muslims too distanced him & stood by RJD, their old & trusted party.

In the mean time, Modi transformed himself a lot. Through his rally speeches he identified himself as a unifying force defeating the expected line of dividing personality. Some Muslim clerics came openly in favour of him. He even made very positive speeches in two rallies in UP. Stature of Modi witnessed a gradual rise.

Then come 27th October rally of Modi at Patna. The IB inputs were there, risk was always high. Nitish knew that IM modules are strongly operating in his state due to his soft terror policy though he had objected strongly on mention of Darbhanga module in inter-state terror meat. Still because of his advisers? constant Modi bashing, Nitish even decided to leave Patna during Modi speech.

Modi as a high profiled leader carries lot of risk. Also it was a known fact to everybody that lacs of people would throng at Gandhi Maidan. It was a challenge to the CM, but Nitish was not thinking as a Chief Minsiter, rather carried away by his ego.

Even the Police officers might have been nervous. After all Modi would be rallying for a day, whereas they are to serve under Nitish. When CM is not comfortable, how would the officers be comfortable in their duty? Thus security lapses happened. It becomes difficult for the Police officers to deliver their best when they are not comfortable with the situation. Even senior officers tried to skip Gandhi Maidan apprehending future backlash by CM.

Terrorists took this an opportunity. Thanks to BJP leadership and had the Bihar public mayhem occurred, Nitish wouldn?t be chief minister by now. For security arrangement, neither there was any prior security drills, nor post response system, no ambulance, no hospital arrangement, what a chaos! Perhaps the Bihar government thought there would be either no rally or a simple street rally!

Around 6 people died and more than 100 were injured, but things could have got worse, where the terrorists could have taken advantage of the administrative lapse.

And how ridiculous was it of JDU leader Sabir Ali to give a statement citing suspicion of blast timing, when he is also the spokesperson of JDU.

However, perhaps Nitish realized all this at that moment. Immediately he cancelled his Munger visit, took stock of situation, took right decisions & immediately took action to nab the culprits. What they could not achieve in Bodh-Gaya case, they achieved here in 48 hours. Even some claimed that Bihar Police cracked the case by the evening of 27th October!

But damages already happened! People from all quarter started deserting Nitish. He turned form hero to zero in a period of three months.

It?s interesting that Sharad Yadav was never for walking away from NDA. Even his response to Modi?s comments was much matured. But he too was being cornered since NDA split like once George Fernandez was.

Nitish earlier proved to be a magnificent political prospect. Its personal ego and the new set of advisers in fact damaged him most. I don?t think it?s too late. He was one of the best Chief Ministers in India and people seriously want him back in that form.

For this, serious introspection needs to be done. He needs to disburse his duty as chief minister without bringing any insecurity, cheap politics & move over his ego. But first he has to dump his advisers like Sabir Ali, Debesh Thakur, K.C.Tyagi  and also other leaders who are always short sighted.
