Pavement salesgirls gesture far better than NGOs
These girls are doing a commendable work by lending their helping hand to these stray dogs. Some salesgirls from the Janpath and adjoining markets have started a campaign and are collecting donations to provide warm clothes to stray dogs.

WE ARE all shivering in the chilly weather and protect ourselves with possible woollens; we could lay our hands on. Rich class uses electric gadgets to protect themselves while the poor lit wood, bushes etc to warm themselves up.

Some of them even use coal-run Anghities (fireplaces) to warm up and at times they are suffocated at night in their closed room.

How about the animals in particular the stray dogs, they have no place to hide themselves from the chilly weather of the season. Some of them are abandoned by their masters when they develop a disease. They don’t have the moral sense to take their pets to a clinic. They love them till they serve them. It is a pity!

But God takes care of His Creatures through noble souls. Some embroidery sales’ girls sitting on the pavements of Jan Path, Connaught Place and Shanker Market have come to the rescue of these stray dogs.

They have raised funds/ donations and soempart from the donations, received from foreigners purchase woollen coats and gunny bags to keep these dogs warm. The cost of a coat varies between Rs 150 – Rs 250, depending upon the size. And the happiness of these dogs can be gauged from the fact that they are happinly moving around in the hands of their survivors.

It’s the foremost duty of our State Govt under the guidance of SPCA (Special Protection for the Cruelty to the Animals) to provide a reasonable facility to the stray dogs as well.

Our hearts go out for the commendable work these girls are engaged in and we want to know about the work NGO’s are doing for these people and stray dogs to fight the biting cold.
