According to the schedule, The National Women's Championship will be held at Railways Stadium in Lahore in the second week of March. The National Men's Championship will also be held in Lahore in April.
PAKISTAN BASKETBALL Federation has announced the schedule of national level tournaments for the current year after the meeting of executive committee of the (PBBF), said a press release. The meeting was chaired by PBBF President Asif Bajwa and was attended by all the members of the executive committee.
Various matters regarding promotion of basketball in the country were discussed during the meeting. A programme for national level tournaments in the current year was also finalised.
According to the schedule, The National Women's Championship will be held at Railways Stadium in Lahore in the second week of March. The National Men's Championship will also be held in Lahore in April. The National Junior Championship will be organised in Karachi in April while the National Departmental Championship will be hosted by Islamabad in July.It was also decided in the meeting that Pakistan teams of both men and women will take part in international competitions. Training camps for the teams will be organised after the respective National Championships. Talking to media, PBBF President Bajwa said efforts would be made to send national teams abroad to give the players international exposure."We will also invite teams from other countries to play series in Pakistan," he said.New FIBA (basketball's world governing body) rules were also discussed and it was decided that the same may be circulated to all members. The new rules will also be applied in all coming national championships, during which clinics for referees and coaches will also be held.A coaching clinic for accreditation of FIBA coaches would also be organised in collaboration with FIBA Asia.The House also condemned the illegal activities of Khalid Bashir and it was decided that the matter be brought to the notice of the Pakistan Olympic Association, Pakistan Sports Board and international sports bodies so that appropriate action can be taken against the former PBBF secretary.An estimated budget of Rs 4 million was approved by the executive committee for the upcoming activities.Bajwa advised the House that aging players may be replaced with youngsters and more activities should be emphasised on holding junior competitions. The PBBF president said infrastructure is the key in the promotion of any sport and as such new basketball courts will be built and tournaments organised in all parts of the country.Bajwa said exhibition matches should be organised by the affiliated units to celebrate national days.The meeting ended with a vote of thanks to the chair.
