PC, Sibal blamed as govt-team Anna talks end in deadlock
A lot was expected from the late night talks between the government and team Anna yesterday, but negotiations ended in a deadlock as both sides refused to budge from their positions.

THE GOVERNMENT and team Anna met late night yesterday in a futile effort to settle their differences. While the government refused to budge from its position, Team Anna was equally stubborn with its demands, resulting in a deadlock. Team Anna has blamed IT and Communication Minister Kapil Sibal and Home Minister P Chidambaram for the fall-out.

Activist Arvind Kejriwal said on Thursday that the two senior ministers were reluctant for talks and were in favour of tackling Team Anna with a tough hand. The activist further said that this was probably the reason why the government took a U-turn on issues the two sides had earlier agreed on.

Kejriwal noted that Team Anna has become a victim of internal politics of Congress. The two sides have held talks several times in the past, but to no result. Team Anna member Kiran Bedi echoed similar views adding that they were unable to figure out whom to talks to? One person says talk to other, other says talk to another. There is nobody to listen to us. This is dangerous, she added.

Meanwhile, refuting reports about the deadlock in talks, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said that neither there was any question of going back to square one nor the question of government changing its attitude. He pointed out that had the government decided to remain firm on its stand there would have been no talks in the first place.

Anna Hazare‘s fast has entered 10th day today. The doctors have expressed concern over Anna’s situation, however, adding that his blood pressure and heart beat were stable.
