People of Gurgaon suffer electricity cut, while DHBVN and Councilor hopeful for better days
As if it was not enough, but the people in Gurgaon have more thing to complain about- electricity. Working for 6 hours straight, people at last, expect some peace and quiet before the television and under the fan or cooler. But, what he gets is no electricity and high tempers. With scorching heat and sweaty days, there is one more huge problem that the Gurgaon people are facing each day- electricity shortage.

The millennium city is losing all its charm this summer due to the extreme power cuts suffered by the residents. Just because of the power cuts, there is also shortage of water. People are now forced to stay without electricity and water and put all their works to a pause.

Shumaiza, a resident of Laxman Bihar complaints, ''We are still experiencing huge power cuts. It is impossible for us to get a good night's sleep. It is easier for the people with stabilizers to keep on working, but what about the people who just have to suffer the power cuts. The electricity board is playing games with us. First, they supply electricity to 3-4 houses at a time and then pass the electricity to other houses leaving the previous houses without any electricity. Even if we get any electricity at all, the voltage is so low that one can do no work at all.''

In this regard, Mangat Ram Bagri,a BJP member and ward councilor, said. ?Yes, there is power shortage. We are doing our best to get the people out of this crisis. It is also the fault of the DHBVN officials who do not work at the time when their help is needed the most. Also, temperature is increasing day by day and so is the electricity demand by the people, so, there is a slight power shortage and we are looking into new ways to supply the requisite amount of electricity. Now, it is our government in power. So, you can see a brighter future ahead.?

The DHBVN, however, have a completely different story to tell. Vinod Aggarwal, DGM, Gurgaon, said, ?We attend to the residents' complaints immediately. We have also introduced a 24x7 toll free number for the residents. There is a 24 hour control room to deal with the residents' complaints. Usually, there are local power cuts. Since, it is too hot these days, the transformers, sometimes, fail which result in the power cuts.?

The millennium city, home to multinational companies like Genpact and Google, has experienced a building boom and the steepest increases in real estate prices in India in reccent years, but the essential services from sewage treatment to roads have not kept up with this progress. Gurgaon's biggest problem is that demand outstrips supply, when it comes to electricity.
