Photography tips: Photographing with a symmetrical balance
Symmetrical balance in photography is seen in perfectly centered compositions or those with almost perfect mirror images. In symmetry, everything in the composition is aligned down the middle line.

THE SIMPLEST photographic composition with the subject is the pleasing arrangement of subject elements within the picture area in a symmetrical fashion.

Symmetrical, or formal, balance in a photograph is achieved when elements on both sides of the picture are of equal weight.

Pictures with formal balance may look static but they do present an air of dignity. Formal balance does not always mean a picture has to the seesaw in perspective.

For initial see-and-shoot photography, it is a good idea to go for a formal balance and symmetry in the composition.

There are two main types of symmetrical balances. First is the mirror symmetry and the second is the radial symmetry. In the latter, all the elements of the design seem to radiate from a center point in a circular way along the radii.

You must look around and consciously practice symmetry photography within your surroundins. You will eventually get some striking photographs as quality comes out of quantity in such compositions.
