Social activist and IPS officer Amitabh Thakur, along with activist Dr. Nutan Thakur, have filed a PIL in Allahabad High Court, Lucknow bench to ensure that the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) complies with the directions that has been laid out by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
As per the PIL, IOC suspended IOA in December 2012 for having failed to comply with the directions to suitably amend its Constitution for introducing integrity and ethics along with good governance in sports. This suspension has a number of ill effects including ban from participation in Olympics.
Again during its meeting in Buenos Aires on 04 September, IOC decided that IOA's suspension will be revoked only after IOA amends its constitution by 31st October to incorporate the clause stating any person against whom charges have been framed in a law court will be removed as an office-bearer. It has to be remembered that Olympics participation is not only related to sports but also linked with the sentiments of the country.
India shall use its authority to ensure that IOA complies with the IOC directions in the prescribed period so that the ill-effects of suspension come to an end.
