PIL seeks uploading of FIRs on website
A local lawyer, through a PIL, has sought direction of the Odisha High Court to police department to upload FIR copies in its website.
A LOCAL lawyer Arun Kumar Budhia has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Orissa High Court seeking direction to police to upload the First Information Report (FIR) copies on its website within a reasonable time.

The petitioner said a person booked under criminal law has the right to get a copy of the FIR so that he can know the nature of allegations leveled against him and can accordingly take necessary steps.

Many police officials do not provide the FIR copy to the accused or to his relatives. Keeping this in view, the petitioner urged the High Court to order the state police to upload the FIRs on the website of the department so that the accused persons and their relatives can download the FIR copy.

The petitioner contended that this measure would not only help the accused persons but will also ensure transparency.
