Players' safety neglected by US Open organisers
Players such as Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray and Andy Roddick were not satisfied with the US Open organisers as they were scheduled to play their matches on a slippery wet surface. Playing in these kinds of surfaces would mean inviting injury to one self.

THE US Open organisers have come in for a lot of criticism from several top players such as Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray, as they had to take to the courts to play their respective opponents on slippery wet surface. Their matches could not be completed with only around 30 minutes of game play witnessed on the courts - as the heavens opened up on a regular basis. The players felt that their safety was not taken into consideration, which could also cost them their career, had they got injured seriously.

The 9th and the 10th day of the competition has been completely marred by the rain, which made the courts wet. The organisers were very eager to kick start the competition as they were lagging behind the schedule after the ground staff did their best to make the playing surface as dry as possible. They could not make it completely dry as the rains had been poured very heavily. The organisers wanted these players to play, as they were also spelling losses in terms of revenue during the tournament. The amount of money that the competition gets from the sponsors is huge so they probably wanted the players to come out and play - irrespective of the conditions and players' safety.

Three big players such as Nadal, Roddick and Murray were the ones who were the most gutted, as it was their matches that had been organised for the day, when they were least expecting to play on a surface, which was not fit for a competition of such high standards. They would have to play each and every shot with utmost care, so as to remain free from any kind of injuries that they might incur. It could have been a wise decision on the part of the US Open organisers, to let some low ranked players come and play in the surface, as their voices would not have been heard as much as these top ranked players voices have been heard across the globe. Nadal was very vocal and even said that the organisers were just worried about the money that floats in.

If the matches are played on these kinds of surfaces, then the audience would not enjoy the quality of tennis that would be in the offing for them. The players would not be able to concentrate on their game, as various kinds of ankle and knee injuries would be their concern while playing on a wet surface. So, over all, it would be the game of tennis that would be on the losing side if players are forced to play on a surface that's not conducive to top level tennis.
