Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has offered to step down as the PM of the country. On Monday, he expressed his willingness to quit after a meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari.
PRIME MINISTER, Yousuf Raza Gilani is in tight spot as he is facing a contempt notice issued to him by the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The contempt notice to Gilani was issued for failing to implement its directive to act against President Zardari on corruption charges.

It may be recalled that Zardari was granted amnesty under the National Reconciliation Ordinance in cases of corruption against him. The ordinance was issued by the government of Pakistan in 2007 to facilitate the return of Benazir Bhutto and her family to the country.
Pakistan's Supreme Court directed Gilani to appear personally before the bench on Jan 19. According to the media reports emerging from Pakistan, Gilani offered to resign 'to save democratic system and Parliament'. But, many think that the offer to quit is the not for saving the Pak democracy but a personal face-saving. Tendering of formal resignation by Gilani and its acceptance are yet to come.
