PM Modi greets people of Tripura on the Jayanti of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Debbarma Manikya Bahadur
Prime Minister, Narendra Modi greeted people across Tripura, on the Jayanti of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Debbarma Manikya Bahadur celebrated on August 19, stated an official press release.

"Glad to know that people across Tripura marked the Jayanti of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Debbarma Manikya Bahadur with immense enthusiasm. Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Debbarma Manikya Bahadur's rich contribution towards the development of Tripura can never be forgotten", Modi said.

Bir Bikram Kishore Debbarman Manikya Bahadur GBE KCSI (1908–1947) was the king of Tripura State before its merger with India. He is considered the architect of modern Tripura who carried out notable land reforms and also built the first airport in Tripura.

Culture of Tripura is similar to those of native indigenous tribal peoples of Northeast India, however, Bengali culture is coexisting along with tribal traditions. Bengalis form a major chunk of Tripura's population. Bengali is the most spoken language, while Kokborok is a prominent language among the tribes.

Tripura is noted for bamboo and cane handicrafts to create different kinds of furniture, utensils, mats, baskets, idols and interior decoration items.

Many view that Modi's greetings on the occasion are an effort to propagate Hinduism in the state of Tripura and counter the demand by two main tribal groups demanding a separate state of Tipraland.
