PM Narendra Modi releases commemorative postage stamps on FIFA World Cup 2014
Indian commemorative postage stamps on the 2014 FIFA World Cup were released by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 12 in Delhi. The stamp release function was held at Modi’s residence and attended by prominent sports personalities as well as Praful Patel, President, All India Football Federation, stated a PIB release.

Terming FIFA World Cup a bridge for connecting nations, Modi said that India had a glorious history in football for being a prominent sport across the country one time.

Emphasizing the need to inculcate the love of sports among children, he remarked "jo khele, wo hi khile" (the one who plays, blooms) and called sportsman spirit a ‘lubricant for the health of the society'.

Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Ravi Shankar Prasad and Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Sarbananda Sonowal also stressed the audience on the need for promoting sports in the country.

The stamps were also released in Jaipur at city's General Post Office ceremonially. The country has issued definitive and commemorative stamps. Over the years several definitive series of stamps in a number of fields have been issued by the Department of Posts in India.
