Some media reports say that the robbery took place early Wednesday morning around 9 am. While other reports say that the theft took place earlier in the morning when the family members were sleeping. The burglars were quick, as no one came to know about the theft. There are grave concerns about the lost laptop too - as there might be some confidential information in it, which the burglars may misuse. It is very surprising that Khare's residence does not have a security guard. Though the area is regularly patrolled by police vehicles as it is also home to Lt Governor Tejendra Khanna, and other top officials.
Another cause for concern is that why did Khare keep his laptop and mobile phone in his car, instead of taking them inside his home, which is more secure. As a public official, that too from the media, surely he must be aware of burgalaries in the city, and the high crime rate. Perhaps, he thought that being a high-ranked public official, he would never be targetted. A case has been registered at the Civil Lines Police station after Renana Khare, wife of Harish Khare, informed about the theft to the local police. The authorities are trying to trace the car, which bears the number plate, DL4 CAS 2844, and is Harish Khare’s private vehicle. The police are also taking some help from the footage of CCTV cameras installed at a nearby location. Some police officials say that there were two people who were roaming outside their house before the burglars carried out their plan.
