FILMMAKER ROMAN Polanski broke a month long silence, and said on Sunday that the US is demanding his extradition from Switzerland on a thirty two year old sex case .
Polanski is under house arrest in his Alpine Swiss chalet on a $4.5 million bail before which he was in the jail for nearly two months. However through a supporter who runs an online magazine, Polanski laid out his case against extradition. He called the case unjust and demanded justice.
Swiss authorities are trying to decide whether to extradite Polanski to Los Angeles for having raped a thirteen year old girl in 1977. He was initially indicted on six felony counts, including rape by use of drugs, child molesting and sodomy. He later pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful sexual intercourse.Polanski was arrested seven months ago when he arrived in Zurich to receive a lifetime achievement award at a film festival.
Polanski claims that Judge Rittenband (who passed away in 1993) had promised him the forty two days he already served, which were spent under psychiatric evaluation, were going to be the entire sentence. Polanski's lawyers also say that due to the deceased judge's improprieties in the case, Polanski should not be extradited. Swiss authorities have not made a decision on the extradition request by prosecutors in California, but the Los Angeles court has scheduled a hearing for next Monday.
