Cases were filed against him at Nirmal in Adilabad district, Nizamabad in Nizamabad district and Osmania University in Hyderabad police stations, after concerned courts directed the police to register cases responding petitions filed by some individuals. The petitions mainly mentioned his speeches delivered last month at Nirmal and Adilabad allegedly provoking Muslims against Hindus. His speech was telecast by a local news channel first, later followed by a national news channel.
The state government and police kept mum till courts interfered. Mr. Owasi was in London for medical examinations and returned on Monday morning to Hyderabad. Earlier, while Nirmal police issued summons asking him to be present at their police station on January 7, 2013, the Nizamabad police issued summons asking him to be present on January 8, 2013.
Without attending Nirmal police station on Monday, he deputed his advocate seeking four days time claiming he was sick. On Monday evening, Nirmal police came to his home in Hyderabad and pleaded him to come with them. However, as Mr. Owaisi was adamant claiming he was sick, the police on Tuesday asked him to come to Gandhi General Hospital for detailed examinations.
The medical report on Mr. Owaisi reportedly says that he has “adhesions, hernia in abdomen. Bullet in thigh putting pressure on sciatic nerve, he (is) unable to walk long distances.”
Gandhi Hospital Superintendent Dr S Mahbub said medical examination of Mr Owaisi was conducted by a team of five doctors. “A bullet is there on the lower side of his back,” the medical superintendent said. Mr Owaisi was seriously injured when a local businessman attacked the legislator after his land was listed as ‘wakf property’.
After medical examinations, Mr Owaisi insisted to return to his home. However, after examining all medical reports, the police prevented him to go back to his home and declared his arrest. Meanwhile, the BJP and other Hindu organizations lamented the state government for its failure to arrest him at Shamshabad AirPort, immediately after his return from London. They alleged the government and the police intentionally delayed to give scope for MIM to mobilize its supporters and gain public sympathies.
MIM withdrew its support from Congress only last month. The party is said to be cultivating close association with revolted Congress leader Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, who is presently in the jail in disproportionate assets cases and his party Y S R Congress is making hard attempts to replace Congress in the forthcoming general elections in the state.
After arrest, the police are shifting him to Nirmal for their investigation. Mr Owaisi filed a petition in the AP High Court on Monday seeking to revoke all the cases filed against him in this regard at various places. The petition is likely to come up before High Court bench on Wednesday.
