Police crackdown at India Gate: Delhi police commissioner fails to submit report before NHRC
Delhi Police Commissioner has failed to file a counter report before National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on police crackdown on protesters who were demonstrating against brutal gang rape in Delhi.

Acting on  a complaint of Human Rights activist and Managing Trustee Akhand, the Commission vide proceedings dated 24.12.12 issued notice to the Commissioner of Police, Delhi to submit a detailed report in the matter within two weeks.

A 23-year-old woman was gang raped on a moving bus in New Delhi and then pushed out of the bus along with her male friend on December 16 last year.

The complainant has alleged that police mercilessly assaulted women who were protesting against gang rape in New Delhi on December 23. As per the complaint, 50 innocents - unarmed and non-violent women were injured in police action.

It has been alleged that police assaulted those girls who even fell on road during protests. The complainant has prayed for intervention of the Commission and prayed for high-level inquiry and compensation. The Commission vide proceedings dated 24.12.12 issued notice to the Commissioner of Police, Delhi to submit a detailed report in the matter within two weeks.

However, no response has been received yet. The Commission has issued reminder to the Commissioner of Police, Delhi to submit detailed report in the matter within two weeks positively failing which the Commission shall be constrained to issue coercive process U/S 13 of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993.
