Police goes berserk: Youth beaten in custody lands in hospital

Jammu police has gone berserk and has continued to give third degree torture in police custody despite number of reports of Human Rights violations.

SP HQ, Shailender Singh is leaving no stone unturned to spread terror in the hearts of not just big fishes but also the small time criminals, and sometime even innocents, who do not have any 'approach' to avoid unjust police action. He is using all his powers to crush anything - especially in R.S Pura and Bishnah - where recently he has personally thrashed number of people while in police custody.

A youth who has been identified as Ashwani Kumar of village Khour Dhiyonia was arrested by the police with illicit liquor on Tuesday and was in the custody of Miran Sahib police station. According to reports when his mother Krishna Devi today reached P/S Miran Sahib to enquire about her son was shocked seeing him half unconscious. She pleaded before the cops to shift him to a hospital for treatment and was accordingly shifted to SDH R.S Pura. Reports said that doctors sensing seriousness referred him to Government Medical College, Jammu. The mother of Ashwani alleged that the police have thrashed her son mercilessly in custody and wound marks inflicted on the back of her son need no proof or witness.

There are several reports of illegal detention and third degree tortures in Bishnah and R.S Pura area where these tortures are being given in the presence of SP Shailender Singh. Last month, similar incident took place in Bishnah police station where a lady identified as Rani Devi wife of Kamal Dass resident of Chak Murar reported to SDH Bishnah and alleged third degree torture by police. A MLC case No-9883 dated 18-08-2011 stands registered with SDH Bishnah and similar wounds were inflicted on her back and other body parts.

Another MLC case was registered in the same hospital when a woman identified as Shafiqa arrested in connection with a property dispute alleged that she has been beaten up by the police and complained severe pain in her head. MLC case No-9382 stands registered in Bishnah hospital and a senior surgeon referred her to GMC for CT Scan.

About a month ago similar torture was given to two youths of Bishnah area who remained in hospital for days together. Just yesterday, a deputation also called upon SSP Jammu to complain against the working of Bishnah police where Shailender rules the root. It may be recalled here that during 2008 Amarnath row, the same SP tried to cremate the body of martyr Kuldeep Verma, who ended his life after swallowing poison at the parade in the darkness of night, which is against the rituals of Hinduism and had led to widespread violent protests in the area.
