Political Dynasty rampant in Andhra Pradesh
BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi ridiculed politics of dynasty during his whirlwind tour in Andhra Pradesh yesterday, cautioning people against such parties and leaders. However, this menace seems to be spreading to almost all major political parties in the state.
All the three major regional parties in the state, TDP, YSRCP and TRS are facing accusation of `family regime’. Even in Congress, `family pack’ became routine to contest in the polls. BJP is also not avoiding such practice.

For TDP, all the three star campaigners are from the same family. While its president N Chandrababu Naidu is the star campaigner, only two others going around the state for campaigning. They are his son N Lokesh and his brother-in-law and Lokesh’s father-in-law Nandamuri Balakrishna. Incidentally, both Chandrababu Naidu and Balakrishna are contesting in the polls. Balakrishna is entering for the first time in the electoral fray.

Balkrishna’s elder brother N Harikshna, a former minister and a former Rajya Sabha member was unhappy for not considering his claim to contest in the present polls. Attempts were made to field Lokesh as well, but it was put abeyance at the last minute.

The YSR Congress Party campaign stars only family members. Its president YS Jaganmohan Reddy, his mother YS Vijayalakshmi and sister Sharmila are going around the state for campaigning.  Atleast six members from Jaganmohan Reddy family are contesting in the polls. In their native district Kadapa, while Jaganmohan Reddy contesting from Pulivendala assembly constituency, his cousin brother (father’s brother son) Avinash Reddy contesting from Kadapa lok sabha. His maternal uncle Ravindranath Reddy is contesting from Kamalapuram assembly seat.

YS Vijayalakshmi is contesting from Visakhapatnam Lok Sabha, while her sister’s husband Subba Reddy is contesting from Ongole Lok Sabha and close family relative B Srinivasa Reddy seeking re-election from Ongole Assembly seat. Sharmila was too tried to contest to the Lok Sabha, but reportedly fearing that she may emerge as alternate power center, his brother avoided it.

From TRS president K Chadnrasekhar Rao's family four members are in the fray. While he is contesting for both Medak Lok Sabha and an assembly seat, his son K T Rama Rao and nephew T Harish Rao are seeking re-election from their assembly seats. His daughter Kavitha, has for the first time entered electoral fray by contesting from Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency.

From the same family, each party has given seats to two or more members. From YSRCP, Nellore MP M Rajamohan Reddy is again contesting, besides his brother seeking re-election from Udayagiri assembly segment and his son first time contesting from Atmakur assembly seat.

Former minister Dr P Ramachandra Reddy while seeking re-election to the assembly from Chittoor, is fielding his son Nithin Reddy from Rajampet Lok Sabha seat.

As many as five family members or close relatives of former PCC president Botsa Satyanarayana are contesting from Vizianagaram district. While he is seeking re-election to the assembly, his wife Jhanshi Rani is also seeking re-election from Vizianagaram Lok Sabha constituency. His brother and cousins are also in the fray.

In Nalgonda district, sitting MP K Rajagopal Reddy and his younger brother and former minister K Venkata Reddy too seeking reelection. Former union minister G Venkataswamy’s son G Vivek seeking re-election from Peddapalli Lok Sabha seat in Karimnagar district, while his elder brother and former minister G Vinod too is contesting.

In Nellore district, former minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy is seeking re-election to the assembly, while his elder brother and sitting MLA Anam Vivekananda Reddy withdrew from the electoral fray, but fielded his son in his place.

With regards to TDP, sitting MLA couples, K. Dayakar Reddy and his wife Seetha Dayakara Reddy is seeking re-election. In Ananthapur district, newly joined from Congress former minister JC Diwakar Reddy is contesting from Anantapur Lok Sabha seat, while his younger brother JC Prabhakar Reddy is contesting from Tadipatri assembly segment.

Another former Congress minister Galla Aruna Kumari is now seeking re-election as TDP candidate from Chandragiri, native place of Chandrababu Naidu in Chittoor district. Her son for the first time is entering the electoral fray from Guntur Lok Sabha constituency.

The BJP is also not away from dynasty politics. While sitting MLA Dr Nagam Janardhan Reddy contesting for Lok Sabha from Mahabubnagar, his son is now entering electoral battle contesting to the assembly. Likewise, Narendranath, who is contesting from Medak Lok Sabha seat against TRS president Chandrasekhar Rao is also fielding his son to the assembly.
