COMPTROLLER AND Auditor General of India (CAG) should take note of huge spend of public-money by Information & Public Relations Department of Uttar Pradesh government through full-page advertisements in all leading newspapers including that of Delhi on January 15, 2011 to greet and wish state Chief Minister Mayawati by spending crores of rupees from state-exchequer for her personal glorification. Mayawati has been in news for spending crores on erecting her own statues at venues developed and erected for the purpose. Such spend of money is contrary to all austerity-measures desired of political rulers.
Glorification and publicity of political rulers and other living personalities through photo-publicity, bruilding statues etc at public-expense or through public-projects should be altogether banned to prevent misuse of public-resources for image-projection of leaders. Instead of waiting verdict on the long-pending writ at Supreme Court, Union government should make it a rule for not allowing photo-publicity of living personalities including those in legislature at public-expense both at centre and in states.
Politicians should be made to understand that India is a developing country with a huge population living under the poverty line and as such precious resources should not be wasted on such projects. Each and every penny should go towards the development of the nation and improvement of the lot of Indians.
