Politics of padayatras in Odisha
Hectic political activities were witnessed on the 143rd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on Tuesday last in Odisha with both the main political parties, BJD and Congress launching Padayatras to expose one another.
THE BJD announced plans to expose UPA government's 'corruption' during the padyatra while the Congress decided to highlight 'misdeeds' of Naveen Patnaik regime and make people aware of different welfare schemes launched by the Centre.

Launching padayatra in Bhubaneswar, the BJD President Navin Patnaik drew attention of people to a series of corruption scandals in the UPA government. “The UPA government has been taking thousands crores of rupees from Odisha in the name of different taxes, whatever the state gets is very negligible,” Patnaik said at the launch. The MLAs and leaders held similar programs in all the districts of Odisha. Congress also adopted the padyatra to woo the people.
The Congress, after the massive September 6 rally at Bhubaneswar, launched its week-long padyatra from Swaraj Ashram in Cuttack.
