The two national level alliances, UPA and NDA now looks to be taking a new turn in which two parties are face-to-face instead of alliances. Both Congress and BJP seem to be in a mood to contest the next general elections between the parties instead of alliance parties. No doubt, both the parties know their actual power in the country, but are keeping an eye on the alliance after the final results.
In view of the recent ordinance to save the convicted law-makers, which stands withdrawn with the intervention of Rahul Gandhi
stating it as non-sense, there had been too much hustle and bustle amongst politicians. Rather, SP Supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav
and CPM Chief Joint Secretary Prakash Karat having a tug-of-war were seen united on the issue of initiative taken by Rahul Gandhi to scrap it and organize a seminar for the safety of religion. Sources say, the motive behind their meeting was virtually to give life to the third front.
Moreover, seeing Narendra Modi
and Chandrababu Naidu on one platform looks to broaden the sphere of NDA whereas ,on the other hand, there are indications and problems for the BJP, in Andhara Pardesh, Jagan Reddy and Chandrababu Naidu for contesting election against each other. But for the UPA, the criticism within the party is that Congress may run according to Rahul Gandhi, but the alliance parties may not be compelled and taken granted as the ‘Yes Man.’
In case, the intentions of both the national parties – UPA and NDA are sharp enough and decide to participate in the ‘Save Secularism Seminar’ scheduled to be held on October 30, then the Congress will have to move all alone in the next general elections.
Frankly speaking, I feel as if like BJP has decided to bring Modi on the front, Congress has also thought of projecting Rahul Gandhi keeping aside the alliances of parties.
