Poll schedule announced for Assam assembly election
ON Tuesday, March 1, the Election Commission declared election dates for elections to the Assam assembly. The elections will be held in two phases. The first phase of the election will be on held April 4. April 11 is the date for the second phase.
ELECTION COMMISSION of India on Tuesday, March 1, declared the election dates for the Assam assembly elections. The elections will be held in two phases. The first phase of the election will be on held April 4. April 11 is the date for the second phase.
The Commission also said that in the first phase, voting will be held in altogether 62 constituencies. It will cover Barak Valley and parts of Upper Assam. On April 11, voters of Lower Assam, Nagaon and Darrang will exercise their franchise.
Notification of election will be issued for first phase and second phase on March 10 and 18 respectively.
The Commission also added that the last dates of filing nominations of candidature are scheduled on March 17 and March 25 respectively for first and second phase. Counting will be held on May 13. With the declaration of election dates in Assam, model code of conduct has also been implemented in the state.
Meanwhile, election fever is catching on in the state and all the political parties have increased their pre-poll activities.

The Communist Party of India (Maoist) has already declared the first list of candidates featuring 21 candidates. Bharatiya Janata Party's National Secretary and Assam Prabhari Vijoy Goel recently said that the party would declare their second candidate list within this week.
