Today in a Cabinet meeting the Congress-led UPA government decided to raise the Dearness Allowance (DA) of the Central government employees from 90% to 100%, and its merger with basic salary.
This move will benefit 50 lakh
Central government employees and 30 lakh pensioners. The Govt. has
also approved Rs 1,000 per month as the minimum pension under EPFO

In an another important decision the
government decided to defer the anti-corruption ordinance. The Govt.
also cleared Election Commission proposal to raise expenditure limits
for Lok Sabha elections to Rs 70 lakh for every candidate.
The items that were on the agenda of
the cabinet today included the Disabilities Rights Bill, an ordinance
to amend the SEBI Act, amendment to the Scheduled Castes and
Scheduled Tribes Act seeking to make violations and penalties more
stringent, and an approval for 54 new Kendriya Vidyalayas.
These decisions has come just before
the general election which is just a doorstep away now. The Congress
government is trying its best to lure the voters by giving them gifts
one after other. As the chances of Congress government post 2014
polls is very thin, so it seems that the party is trying whatever it
can to get public's attention.
