Ponting and Clarke throttle India
The Indian team came up with another disappointing performance, as Australians have taken a lead of 291 runs in their first innings reply to India's 191, during the second Test match at SCG.

INDIA HAS landed in huge trouble as the Australian team has already taken a lead of 291 runs in their first innings, in reply to India’s 191. The Indian team fell like a pack of cards on the first day and the Australians dominated the second day of the Test match at SCG, where both Ricky Ponting and Michael Clarke scored a century and double century respectively, while the latter is still holding the crease with 251 runs to his name.

The Indian team was charged up, when they took to the field on the opening session of the second day’s play, but they soon ran out of gas as the two Australian batsmen, Clarke and Ponting began to dominate the bowlers. They were looking great, as they clipped balls on the leg side, pulled, drove, cut for boundaries on numerous occasions.

Zaheer khan along with the rest of the Indian bowlers gave their best, but still they could not make any major breakthrough. Ponting and Clarke put up a stand of around 280 runs, which has already put Indians on the back foot. The only time India could rejoice was when Ponting was dismissed by Ishant Sharma after scoring 134 runs.

One of the best bowlers for India at MCG during the first Test match, Umesh Yadav, could not come up with a good performance at SCG, where he conceded 94 runs from 18 overs, thus making him the most expensive bowler as of now. R. Ashwin has also not been able to take any wickets in the Test match. Zaheer khan was impressive in the first day, when he bagged three wickets and Ishant has taken the sole wicket on the second day. The Indian bowlers were also unlucky many a times, as they beat the bat but could not get any edges to the waiting gloves of MS Dhoni.

Even though there are three full days left for the match to be completed, the Indian team is already looking down the barrel. It seems to be an impossible task for the Indians to come back in the match, but if they do, it would be termed as a ‘magical comeback’.
