RICKY PONTING, one of the best Australian batsmen has been going through a bad phase of his cricketing career in the ongoing ODI series. The selectors were in no mood to overlook the form of the Aussie, who has brought several laurels to the country in the past. Hence, he has been dropped from the team for their upcoming matches against Sri Lanka and India. Is it an end of Ricky Ponting’s career?

 

He had come under a lot of scrutiny before the Test series, but his recent form in the longer format was praiseworthy, the same could not be said in the shorter format, as he has only scored 18 runs in his last 5 appearances, reported Indian Express. He has struggled to hang on to the crease, which has not been taken lightly by the Australian Committee.

 

He would be replaced by a good cricketer, Shane Watson, who has been troubled with injuries in the past. It is going to be a difficult task for Watson to fill his shoes, but he is capable of doing good things for Australia, as he is one of the best all-rounders of the game. Some experts are already thinking that we might have already seen the last of Ricky Ponting. The Australians are building a team for 2015 World Cup, so it might have given him enough clues that his time is almost up. But, he might address a press conference in the coming days to talk about his future. Everyone is eager to lend an ear to it. 

Other countries like India might have to think for long hours, if they are to drop any of the senior players. The Australians do not believe in age, but in performances, hence, they take quick decisions. Look at Sehwag’s form. If he was an Australian, he would have been shown the exit doors after the Test series itself. Indians can take a leaf out of the Australian selector’s book and take some bold decision. Will they?
