Pope Francis is the new beacon of change for the corruption-hit Vatican City. While no dirty linens are aired in the public by Italians about the ongoing politics in the Church but analysts around the world feel that the new Pope will be the harbinger of change and reform in the Vatican. Greeting his 200,000 followers in Italian, Pope in his 15- minute speech focused on God and God's forgiving ways.
Talking to the international press, he explained why he chose the name Francis and that he wanted a church that was poor and for the poor. According to AFP, a Brazilian Cardinal asked him not 'to forget the poor.' His words had a great impact on the present Pope and he chose the name Francis, referring to St. Francis of Assisi and how that priest loved peace and he named himself after the man.
As was reported by CNN, the Pope further explained that St Francis was a poor man, simple man and is revered among the Catholic for his work for the poor. The Pope also sent out his first tweet after being elected. “Dear friends, I thank you from my heart and I ask you to continue to pray for me. Pope Francis,” he tweeted. When he marched out of the Vatican City gates to greet his well wishers, everyone was surprised, elated and felt that the Pope was serious about change as such a thing has not been seen for 35 years.
The fact that he is letting people keep their positions in the Vatican offices means that he wants a period of reflection before making a decision, analysts point out. Vatican City is currently anticipating great things from the Pope and it seems that he will not let them down.
